Missing Cats, Sadness, Hurricane, And Why I Have Been Neglecting My Blog

Mango disappeared  two weeks ago. I know he's gone forever.  He's helpless. He doesn't hunt or climb trees and he has a habit of putting himself in danger and then just staring off into space. Mango is my cat. He adores me, or did anyway. Now he's gone.  We had ten years together. He was going to be "put to sleep" because his owner died and nobody wanted him.
And then there's Bella.  She only wants a place to hang out when the weather is bad and when she's hungry, so she takes off for days at a time. But she hasn't been around for more than two weeks now, and she didn't even come home when the hurricane hit.  So maybe she's gone forever too.
We were without power for three days, which really isn't bad considering that a lot of folks are still without power a week later.  Seven trees came down near our house, but there was no damage. Nothing like a gigantic tree falling over in the yard to get your heart racing though.
With Mango gone and Bella probably gone too, I really don't feel like posting on my blog anymore.  I'm thinking of deleting it altogether. I so miss Mango, he purred every time I got near him and always looked at me like I was his world.  Nobody else loves me like that. Bella got real lovable over the winter, and I love her too, but I always knew that her heart was in the great outdoors and she would stay on the wild side.
We still have Taco and Sumari.  Taco is always happy and loves everybody, and Sumari is independent, but she loves her humans too.
I'm not sure what I'll do with the blog, but if it's just gone one day, you'll know why.

Photo Hunt Saturday: Drink

Why do most cats refuse to drink from their water bowl?  Mango will drink from ANYTHING as long as it's not his bowl. Sumari will ONLY drink from people cups and glasses. Since everybody (except me) leaves half-full glasses of water lying around, she usually finds a drink

Bella will only drink running water:

The One That Got Away

Taco has become interested in catching birds lately.  I guess his mouse-a-day habit is boring him. The birds around here are smart though, and he hasn't succeeded in catching any. Until yesterday.  He came home with a bluejay, and it was limp and appeared to be dead. I tried to pry it out of his mouth, but he just clamped on tighter. Finally he got tired of it and dropped it, when he did it sprang to life and flew off into a tree where it scolded him for some time.  He was as surprised as I was!  I am so glad that bird not only survived, but flew away with no problem at all!

SHE'S BACK!!!!!!

THANK YOU to everybody who left such positive, hopeful comments!  Bella waltzed in this morning, a little thinner, but absolutely fine!  She was quite lovable and happy to see me. We had a talk. For those of you who don't have a serious love connection with your pets, just ignore this next part.  You may think I'm looney :-)
Apparently Bella thinks its very unfair of me to expect her to stay in at night, especially when it's about 85 degrees inside the house. And I should not use sneaky tricks to get her in either. I guess I'm supposed to rest assured that she is perfectly safe in the wilds of Ellington in the wee hours of the night, even considering that coyotes live in the apple orchard down the street.
She has asserted her freedom by taking a vacation down by the lake for the last week. She also decided to make it clear that the house is too warm by napping in the bathtub...the coolest place in the house.
Tired Bella after a week long vacation, then lots of loving and treats.
At least she's home!!!

I Miss My Bella

I can't believe she's been gone almost a week. Strangely, my neighbor Dave's cat has been missing a week.  He has two white cats and one disappeared last Friday, a day before Bella went missing.  The neighborhood stray was hit by a car and killed :(  But, good news also: another neighbor whose cat has been missing for a few weeks has her cat back! It just came home yesterday.
We've had Bella a year and a half, she was a stray who just moved in back in December of 2009.  She always demanded her freedom, there was no way I could keep her in the house.  She did get very lovable over the winter, but warmer weather sparked her free spirit and she refused to come home many nights.
I'm still hoping she will come home and that she is safe and happy.
