I Live In A House Full Of Murderers

I love my cats. They are fun, cute, cuddly, lovable, and have unique adorable personalities. But why do they have to KILL so many little critters? Not only do they kill them, but they get the most intense pleasure out of throwing them around and tormenting them first. They bring home moles and mice EVERY day, and chipmunks occasionally. They even each have their own little "pleasure chirp" to announce lunch is at the doorstep.
I'm so glad they don't catch birds! The birds around here are too cat smart, they know exactly how to avoid or intimidate cats.

Photo Hunt Saturday: Looking Down

Here is a photo of Sumari balanced on the stair railing, looking down on a dog that is visiting.
Yeah, it's a cat-loving dog!
Here's what she's looking down at:

EWWWW!!!

First of all, I'd like to point out that I am really, REALLY glad that I wasn't home when this happened! I mean, I can deal with snakes (sort of) but NOT in my living room.
On warm days, we keep the back door open, and look what Taco brought right into the house (good thing Seth was paying attention, can you imagine this little plaything hiding under the couch and then slithering out at some unlikely moment? Geez, I'd jump out of my skin).

Do They Have Nothing Better To Do?

Look what those silly humans did!  And look at what a good sport I am! First I got bunny ears, then they put baby socks on my gorgeous paws.  All of which got knocked off about one-tenth of a second after I got back down on the floor.  Sigh.  The stuff I put up with...

Taco Is Back!!!!!

My neighbor Dave just called, he was away all weekend and couldn't figure out why his cats have been growling at him all night...till he noticed Taco in his cellar!  Apparently Taco went in his cat door and was too scared of the other cats to run back out.
He's HOME!!!! I'm so glad!

Should Cats Eat Tuna?

Catnip or tuna? Given a choice many cats would choose the tuna.  It's just one of those things cats go crazy for.  But, it isn't a good idea to feed a cat tuna, other than a very small amount as a rare treat. For one thing tuna, like most fish is contaminated with mercury.
The Consumers Union recently analyzed 42 samples of packaged tuna, and found that about half a can of white (albacore) tuna (which tends to have more mercury than light tuna) contains more mercury than the EPA's recommended daily limit for women of childbearing age.  That's for a woman, a cat is a whole lot smaller.
Another issue is BPA, a toxic chemical found in most can linings.
In analyzing canned goods, Consumer Reports has found measurable levels of the chemical additive bisphenol A in canned tuna, including tuna labeled as “BPA-free.”

If you still choose to give your cat tuna, remember that tuna does not contain significant amounts of vitamin E, for example, so too much of the fish can lead to vitamin E deficiency, resulting in yellow fat disease, or steatitis.  Felines who are fed too much tuna can develop other nutrient deficiencies, too, because most de-boned fish are lacking in calcium, sodium, iron, copper and several other vitamins.
